The French-American School of Chicago is an academic, linguistic and cultural program taught in French, that is fully integrated within the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) system. EFAC is located in the dynamic and family-oriented Lincoln Park neighborhood.

EFAC combines the best of the French and American education systems into a unique learning environment in which students benefit from the two different methods of knowledge acquisition. Thanks to the dual program, students develop solid language and cultural skills which position them for success in the diverse world in which we live.

At Abraham Lincoln Elementary School (K-8), EFAC students enjoy a mix of French and American courses each day; each curriculum develops its own learning methods and responds to its particular cultural needs. The EFAC follows the teaching program of the French Ministry of Education, fully accredited through 5th grade and uses the services of the CNED (Center for Distance Education) starting in 6th grade.

At Lincoln Park High School (9-12), EFAC students work toward the French baccalauréat and often concurrently participate in the very highly regarded International Baccalaureate program, another essential ingredient for success in an increasingly globalized world.

EFAC is a not-for-profit association whose members are parents of active students. The school is affiliated with the Agence pour l’Enseignement du Français à l’Étranger (AEFE) and is a member of the Association des Écoles Françaises d’Amérique du Nord (AFSA) and the Mission Laique Française (MLF).

EFAC is an active contributor to the neighborhood and school district.  Some examples of EFAC activities:

  • French Camp – all CPS 5th graders and all EFAC students up to 5th grade participate in this annual 4-day retreat outside of Chicago.
  • CineClub – a monthly after-school event introducing French children’s movies to the Lincoln community.
  • Programme Jules Verne – a program in which the French Ministry of Education funds a one-year visit by a French teacher at no cost to CPS.
